Equipping Bulgarian Orphans with the skills to improve their lives
Despite being an EU country, Bulgaria has one of the highest rates of orphaned or abandoned children in Europe.
At 18 children living in state
institutions are told to leave. With no state provision for these young people they leave with no money, no home, no job and no hope.
Official government statistics show that between 2001-2005 only 8 young people leaving state care were able to find paid employment
For many, crime, drugs and
prostitution become their only means of survival
We believe these young
people deserve a brighter
future...
We will be partnering with The Trussell Trust, a Salisbury-based charity working to alleviate poverty in the UK and overseas. Their successful project The House of Joshua in Botevgrad, Bulgaria, will provide us with a model for The House of Rachel.
The House of Joshua opened in September 2007 and is already seeing lives of young state care leavers being transformed
