ASPARUHOVO IN BRIEF
Asparuhovo is a beautiful village in the east of Bulgaria approx 65km from the popular Black Sea resort of Varna. The village has a very ancient history which was re-written in 1969 when the valley in which it stood was deliberately flooded for the creation of a dam and reservoir. The reservoir is set against a backcloth of majestic hills
The village population is approx 700 and has a few hotels, shops, primary school and museum.
It is hoped that the museum will play an important part in the project as it is a very popular tourist attraction. It portrays traditional Bulgarian life and tourists come in their bus loads to experience the culture of the country. The museum is directly opposite The House Of Rachel and it is a daily occurrence for the tourists to queue in front of the house for a ride in a traditional donkey & cart around the village. On completion of the workshops at The House Of Rachel a cottage industry can be created to manufacture and sell souvenirs to the tourists. This will give the residents a variety of skills and just as importantly, the residents will realise their true value as the income contributes to their own welfare
